Nairobi Hospital Reaffirms Stability with Bold Patient-Centered Mission, New Investments and access to Quality Care.
Nairobi, August 18, 2025
The Nairobi Hospital has moved to allay public concerns over its financial and operational standing, reaffirming its strength, unity in governance, and renewed commitment to world-class healthcare delivery, and today at Nairobi hospital in Nairobi, it's leadership has reiterated the hospital's unwavering mission; to provide quality, patient-centered care to all who walk through it's doors.
Addressing the press in a joint briefing by the Board of Management and the Board of Trustees, the hospital leadership emphasized that the institution remains financially solid, operationally sound, and focused on its mission of “healthcare with a difference.”
Central to the reassurance was clarification on the ongoing petition filed by Opticom Kenya Ltd, which the hospital described as a legal matter under active contestation in court. “All obligations, staff salaries, supplier payments, and ongoing investments are being met without disruption,” the leadership stated.
Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Felix Osano, highlighted the hospital’s robust modernization programme, which has been powered by internally generated revenues amounting to KSh 1.5 billion, without reliance on external borrowing.
“These resources have gone into transformative projects including six state-of-the-art labour and delivery suites, a 256-slice AI-enabled CT scanner, and a new Cardiac Centre housing East and Central Africa’s first biplane catheterisation laboratory within a laminar flow theatre suite,” said Mr. Osano. “Each project is designed to improve patient outcomes and strengthen our leadership in specialised care.”
The hospital also addressed recent tension with insurance partners following a 5% tariff adjustment introduced in July. After dialogue, the hospital rescinded the price changes, restoring pre-adjustment rates for patients. “This decision reflects our goodwill, prioritising patient access while ensuring sustainability of care,” Mr. Osano affirmed.
On governance, Chairman Dr. Barcley Onyambu acknowledged shortcomings of past boards, which had at times exposed the institution to risks. He assured that new reforms have been instituted to safeguard accountability, transparency, and prudent decision-making. “With recent court-imposed restrictions now lifted, we are resuming critical infrastructure and equipment investments,” he said. “This is more than a legal victory; it is a turning point for Nairobi Hospital and again this hospital belongs to every Kenyan," he added.
Founded as a premier non-profit healthcare institution, The Nairobi Hospital has long been recognised as a regional leader in advanced diagnostics, treatment, and referral services. It continues to uphold international standards of safety, dignity, and patient-centered care.
Looking ahead, Nairobi Hospital pledged to continue advancing towards it's goal of being a regional center of excellence by investing in world-class infrastructure, cutting -edge equipment, and highly qualified professionals.
“Going forward, our unity of purpose and commitment to transparency will remain unwavering,” Dr. Onyambu concluded. “Our focus is, and will always be, to deliver quality care that meets the needs of every patient.”
