Talanta Youth Affairs Agenda Sets Stage for Empowering Local Enterprise Ahead of International Youth Day.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs has an ambitious agenda under the Talanta youth empowerment program, with plans to hold a high-level annual conference to mark International Youth Day on August 12. This year’s theme, "Empowering Local Youth Enterprise," reflects a renewed national focus on nurturing innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership among Kenya’s young people.
In a press release issued today, the ministry emphasized the critical role of the media as a key implementation stakeholder, calling for collaboration in amplifying youth voices, publicizing success stories, and driving national engagement. Preparations for the annual conference are already in motion, with stakeholders from government, civil society, donor agencies, and youth-led organizations set to convene.
“This country is not short of organizations and donors willing to walk with us,” said the CS Hon. Salim Mvurya EGH. “What’s needed is effective coordination, visibility, and policy action. The media has the power to shape this narrative and hold systems accountable.”
The Talanta initiative seeks to go beyond talent recognition to empower young people as job creators, innovators, and community builders. Through skill-building programs, mentorship, access to funding, and policy support, the ministry hopes to transform the youth agenda from passive participation to active economic empowerment.
This year’s International Youth Day celebration will not only highlight outstanding youth enterprises across the country but also launch strategic partnerships aimed at scaling local ventures. Young entrepreneurs from both rural and urban counties are expected to showcase their work, with donor agencies pledging support for scalable, sustainable ideas.
“We want to use this day not just to celebrate youth, but to mark the beginning of something bigger — a platform that continuously champions young people,” the CS Hon. Salim Mvurya added.
The ministry is calling upon all counties to align with the Talanta agenda and create localized platforms for youth empowerment. As August 6 approaches, the spotlight turns to whether Kenya can turn its vast youth potential into tangible national prosperity.
