The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) today unveiled certificates to its aspirants who will be contesting in upcoming by-elections across the country, in a colourful ceremony held at the party headquarters in Nairobi.
Led by Governor Amos Nyaribo, who also serves as the UPA party leader, the event brought together aspirants drawn from different regions of Kenya, party officials and supporters. The unveiling marked the official kick-off of UPA’s participation in the by-election contests, with leaders expressing optimism about their chances.
Speaking during the event, Governor Nyaribo urged the aspirants to approach the campaigns with vigilance, confidence and well-thought-out strategies to overcome strongholds of rival political parties. He emphasized the importance of unity within UPA, noting that the party was steadily positioning itself as a credible alternative on the national stage.
“This is your moment to show voters that UPA represents hope and genuine opportunity. We must be vigilant and resilient in the face of political waves from other quarters. Our victory will depend on discipline, strategy and confidence,” Nyaribo mentioned.
The party also reiterated its confidence in former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, affirming him as UPA’s presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election. Party officials described Matiang’i as a leader capable of steering Kenya to better governance and service delivery, citing his track record in public service.
“We remain firmly in the opposition and our candidate for the top seat will remain Fred Matiang’i,” Nyaribo said, adding that the decision was based on the party’s analysis of his leadership strengths.
Aspirants who received certificates expressed strong faith in the party’s agenda, vowing to deliver victory in their respective constituencies and counties. They also called on more politicians and supporters to rally behind UPA, which they described as a platform that provides genuine chances for political growth and representation.
“UPA is the party of opportunities. We are ready to fly its flag high and bring these seats home,” one of the aspirants declared.
With the by-election campaigns now underway, the unveiling ceremony underscored UPA’s intent to cement its political footprint, while building momentum for its long-term goal of contesting for national leadership under Matiang’i’s candidacy.
