Family Bank Group has reported a robust financial performance for the nine months to September 30, 2025, posting a 56 per cent rise in Profit After Tax to KES 3.5 billion, up from KES 2.3 billion recorded over a similar period last year.

The lender attributed the improved profitability to sustained growth in interest income, a strengthened balance sheet and disciplined cost management amid a challenging operating environment.

According to the financial results released on Tuesday, the Bank's total assets expanded by 24.1 per cent to KES 202.5 billion, supported largely by higher investments in government securities, which rose to KES 39 billion. The loan book grew by 10.1 per cent to KES 103.7 billion, reflecting increased lending to retail and SME customers.

Interest income increased by 21.2 per cent, boosted by earnings from loans and returns from the expanded government securities portfolio. Net interest income closed the period at a strong KES 10.9 billion.

Non-funded income also recorded solid growth, rising by 14.4 per cent on the back of increased customer transactions, continued investment in digital platforms, and partnerships targeted at strengthening SME lending.

Speaking during an investor briefing, Family Bank CEO Nancy Njau said the Bank's consistent execution of its strategic priorities continued to drive performance across key business lines.

"This robust performance is in line with our strategic focus, prioritising innovation, digital transformation, customer-centricity and strategic partnerships aimed at scaling our SME lending capabilities. This positions Family Bank as the ‘Preferred Bank for Biashara’ as we work towards our planned listing at the NSE in 2026," Ms. Njau said.

"As we head into the final quarter, we remain committed to putting our customers first and delivering sustainable value to our shareholders.”

Customer deposits rose by 15.3 per cent to KES 146.8 billion, reflecting rising confidence in the Bank's stability and service delivery.

Operating expenses increased by 33 per cent, driven by higher staff costs and elevated loan-loss provisions, which stood at KES 1.3 billion. The Bank said the provisioning aligns with its prudent risk management approach amid shifts in the credit environment.

Family Bank's core capital grew to KES 19.6 billion, up from KES 14.7 billion in the same period last year, underscoring strong capital adequacy ahead of the progressive tightening of regulatory requirements. Its liquidity position remained healthy, with a liquidity ratio of 54.4 per cent well above the statutory minimum of 20 per cent.

As of December 31, 2024, the Bank reported total assets of KES 168.5 billion and customer deposits of KES 126.4 billion.

A pioneer in digital innovation, Family Bank introduced several firsts in the market, including paperless banking, mobile banking through PesaPap, and the first mVisa launch in Africa.
