Nairobi - November 27, 2025.
Opposition leaders on Wednesday raised concerns over alleged electoral irregularities ahead of Thursday’s by-elections, accusing state agencies and the electoral commission of failing to guarantee a credible process.
Speaking during a joint press briefing in Nairobi, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo said reports from multiple constituencies indicated voter bribery, intimidation of supporters, use of plainclothes officers, and circulation of pre-marked ballot papers.
He cautioned that such incidents, if not addressed, risked undermining public confidence in the vote.
“We have credible information pointing to attempts to interfere with the will of the people. These actions threaten the integrity of the by-elections and must be halted immediately,” Kalonzo said.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua echoed the concerns, saying communities in affected areas had raised fears over possible disruptions on polling day.
He urged security agencies to act impartially and prioritise the safety of voters.
“We expect security officers to protect citizens, not to intimidate them. The by-elections must be conducted in an environment free from fear,” Gachagua stated.
Democratic Action Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa criticised what he termed deliberate efforts to compromise the electoral process, claiming some actors were engineering chaos to influence outcomes.
He called on IEBC to ensure strict adherence to electoral procedures and transparency during tallying.
“Any attempt to manipulate these by-elections will only deepen mistrust in our institutions. IEBC must provide clarity, openness, and professionalism throughout the exercise,” Wamalwa said.
The leaders jointly urged election observers, party agents, and the media to closely monitor the polling process, document any irregularities, and support efforts to safeguard the vote. They also appealed to voters to remain calm, turn out in large numbers, and resist any provocation that could lead to unrest.
“We want a peaceful, transparent, and accountable process. The voice of the people must be respected,” the three leaders said in a collective appeal.
The by-elections are scheduled for Thursday across several counties, with IEBC finalising preparations and security agencies expected to deploy personnel to maintain order.
